Bespoken Word

A brand built from scratch for a Melbourne editor who lets her authors do the talking.

The Brief

Alana Sumic came to Phancybox at the very beginning – no logo, no website, no online presence. Just a clear vision, a passion for editing, and the perfect business name that her dad came up with over dinner.

Our job was to build Bespoken Word from the ground up. That meant designing a brand identity that reflected who Alana is, then building a website that would work as hard as she does – attracting the right clients, communicating her services clearly, and laying the groundwork to be found on Google.

The Brand

When a business launches with no existing identity, every design decision carries extra weight. The logo needed to do several things at once: signal professionalism, feel warm and approachable, and communicate at a glance what Bespoken Word does.

The result is a two-line wordmark: Bespoken sits on the first line, Word beneath it. The W of Word is where the magic happens – the natural negative space within the letter has been replaced with typewriter keys, integrated into the legs of the W itself. It’s specific enough to be memorable, subtle enough to feel considered rather than literal.

The logo works equally well on screen and in print, at large and small scale. For a service business where trust is everything, that consistency matters.

Our Approach

A design that feels like Alana

Our brief to ourselves was simple: the website should feel the same as working with Alana – warm, professional, and reassuring. We worked with her brand colours (a deep forest green, warm gold and soft cream) and paired Gloock for headings with DM Sans for body text.

The result is a site that feels editorial without being cold, and personal without being unprofessional.

Content that converts

Good design only goes so far if the words aren’t working. We worked through every page of the Bespoken Word website to ensure the copy was clear, benefits-focused, and structured to guide visitors toward making contact. From the service descriptions to the FAQ section, every line has a job to do.

Fast, reliable web hosting

A slow website loses visitors before they’ve had a chance to read a word. Bespoken Word is hosted on our own high-performance servers, optimised at every level (server, software and code) to ensure fast load times and a smooth experience on every device.

As a Noosa web design company working with clients across Australia, fast and reliable hosting is non-negotiable for every site we build.

Built for visibility from day one

As a new business with a new domain, Bespoken Word had zero online authority when she launched. We built a search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy into the site from the ground up, not as an afterthought. This included location-based keyword placement throughout the site to help Alana rank in Melbourne and Australian searches, as well as structured schema throughout to target the exact questions her ideal clients are searching for. She’s set up to be found.

A calculator that does the selling

One of the challenges for any editor is helping potential clients understand cost before they make contact. We built a real-time project cost calculator that allows visitors to select their service and enter their word count for an instant estimate. It removes a barrier to enquiry and means Alana spends less time fielding questions and more time editing.

Ongoing support, so Alana can focus on editing

Launching the website was the beginning, not the end. Alana is an editor, not a web developer – so we handle everything that happens after launch. Our ongoing website support means every update is thoroughly considered: images are cropped, resized, optimised and renamed before they’re uploaded. Every change is made with the full picture in mind. Alana focuses on her clients. We focus on her website.

FAQs

Do I need a web designer if I'm just starting out, or can I build my own website?

You can build your own website – platforms like Squarespace and Wix make it possible. But there’s a difference between a website that exists and one that works. A professionally built WordPress website is faster, more flexible, better structured for Google, and built to grow with your business. For a new business especially, your website is often the first impression a potential client gets. It’s worth getting right from the start.

How long does it take to design and build a new website?

Most web design projects take between four and eight weeks from brief to launch, depending on complexity, how quickly content is provided, and the number of revisions. Projects that include logo design or custom functionality – like a cost calculator or booking integration – may take a little longer. We’ll give you a clear timeline before we begin.

Do you work with businesses outside of Noosa and Queensland?

Yes. While Phancybox is based in Noosa, we work with businesses across Australia. Bespoken Word is one of our Melbourne clients – you can find out more about our Melbourne web design, Melbourne SEO and Melbourne website maintenance services.

What's included in ongoing website support?

Ongoing website support means your website is maintained, updated and monitored by people who built it and understand it completely. This includes content updates, image optimisation, plugin and security updates, performance monitoring and anything else that keeps your site running at its best. Every update is made with the full picture in mind – not just the individual task.

Can you take over a website someone else built?

Yes. If you’re unhappy with your current service provider, outgrowing your existing site, or simply want a team who treats your website as an ongoing asset rather than a one-off job, we can take over hosting, maintenance and support – or rebuild it entirely. We’ll assess what’s there first and give you an honest recommendation.

What makes a WordPress website better for SEO than a template builder?

WordPress gives you full control over the technical elements that affect how Google reads and ranks your site – page speed, schema markup, URL structure, metadata, image optimisation and more. Template builders often limit these options or handle them generically. For Melbourne businesses that want to be found on Google, WordPress is the stronger long-term foundation.
